Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find some of the most common questions I am asked about Hypnotherapy, Hypnosis and sessions with me. If you have any questions that aren't covered, please feel free to get in touch.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a natural state for the human body and mind to be in. You will feel deeply physically relaxed. You will be alert and will be able to hear me, although you may not hear every word.

What happens in the first session?

During the first session, the first half of the session is dedicated to us discussing why you have come to see me and the things you would like to use hypnotherapy for. Prior to your first session you will have completed a questionnaire about yourself, your health and events during your life, so we will discuss these also. Then the second half of the session is your first hypnotherapy session. You will be invited to lay down on the couch and then I will lead you in a guided relaxation.

Is Hypnotherapy anything like that which I may have seen on TV?

Hypnotherapy is nothing like you will have seen on TV. Stage hypnotism is a very different practice, and once which is meant fir entertainment purposes. As a therapist my job is to ensure you are relaxed as a possible, feeling calm and comfortable. You will not do anything in hypnosis that contravenes your ethics or values and you will retain control the whole time.

Will I be in control?

You will be in control the entire time and should you wish to stop the session at any time, you will be able to.

Is Hypnosis Sleep?

No, hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation. You may experience physical sensations such as limbs feeling heavy or very light. You may feel like you are floating on air or sinking. All the time feeling the most relaxed you have ever felt, like your mind and body is have a short time out from life to rest completely.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on what you are looking to treat with hypnotherapy. We will discuss this during our initial phone call but a good guide is usually we will start with 3-6 sessions depending on how you are getting on with the process. Some programmes such as weight loss and anxiety, benefit from a 6-8 session commitment.  If you are looking at one of my Programmes, they all have session guides included. See Programmes Here

Are there any side effects of hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a completely natural state which you will have experienced many times before in your day to day life, such as driving somewhere and not remembering how you got there, or washing the dishes and drifting away in thought. Even getting so caught up in a TV show and losing awareness of the room around you - these are all examples of the human mind an body drifting into a natural state of hypnosis. The only side effects from our sessions you will experience, are a sense of well being and calm. Clients often report sleeping better, feeling calmer, more confident and a general sense of well being following sessions.

How much is a session?

Fees will vary depending on how many sessions you need. For details on fees, please take a look at my page on fees here .

Where will it take place?

Hypnotherapy sessions can take place face to face or online and both are as effective as the other.  Face to face sessions take place in my bespoke built therapy room (see below for photos) located between Addlestone and Weybridge in Surrey, which is designed to be a relaxing, tranquil and safe space for you to enjoy. Online sessions take place via Zoom. Online therapy works is just as face to face, so it is a personal preference what works better for you, and your proximity to me. The wonderful thing about online therapy is it enables me to work with people around the country and the world with no barriers to therapy.

My Therapy Type

Therapy with me is an interaction, a back and forth. I won't just nod at you in silence and agree.  Our sessions are engaged and action based. There is work to do, and life changing results to achieve.

Will Hypnosis work for me?

Like any therapy, there how well hypnotherapy will work for you will depend on a number of factors, most importantly your openess to treatment, feeling relaxed with your therapist and your own motivation to create change in your life.
